A simple make using colourful foam craft sheets and sticky tape.
This was sent in to us by Valentyna. She made it for her daughter Alexandra, and we think it's totally amazing, and ideal for a child wanting to get into her favourite character, Cosima!
Cosima wears her wristCom wherever she goes on Proxima, so she can speak to D.O.R.I.S. or Dad - safety first!
D.O.R.I.S. appears as a floating holographic emoji, so Valentyna has not only crafted the watch but also stuck a floating smiley on top!

There are only a few steps for crafting a WristCom at home:
Materials
White, black and yellow vinyl craft sheets, like these.
Sticky tape, ideally clear, like this.
Black and red permanent markers.
Pencil.
Glue stick.
Step 1
Measure your child's wrist!
Step 2
Draw out the shape of the whole watch directly on a white foam sheet, and the shape of the black screen on a black foam sheet. Make sure it's long enough to reach around your child's wrist using the measurement you took in Step 1.
Be sure to make one side of the strap narrower than the other, and cut two slits into the wider side (to thread the thinner side through):

Step 3
Glue the black screen shape on to the white watch.
Step 4
Cut out a circle from the yellow foam sheet. D.O.R.I.S.'s emoji face has 10 straight edges, making it a decagon! But you could actually create whatever you like, even planets (like Dad has in the image above). If you're sticking with D.O.R.I.S.'s face, draw her eyes and smile on the yellow foam shape with permanent markers.

Step 5
Use the clear sticky tape to prop the yellow face up at right-angles to the watch screen, just like the picture at the top of this page.
Your new wristCom should be finished! Just wrap it around your little one's wrist and thread the thinner strap through the slits in the bigger strap, to hold it in place. If it comes undone, use a little more clear sticky tape to fix it up.
Congrats!
Why not make yourself one too, then you can speak to each other (and D.O.R.I.S.) with them. Or you could pretend to be D.O.R.I.S. and reply to your little one's questions in the best robot voice you can make! Have fun and do share with us any photos of your creations!
